She is an actor, visual artist, poet, and vocalist fluent in many singing techniques. Wrené brings a unique sound to life through unorthodox musical arrangements and captivating vocal performance. The integration of Avant-garde electronic sound, sampled instruments and soulful vocals lend themselves to an ethereal soundscape, where the counterpoints of beauty and darkness coalesce. The duality of heavy and light electronic sounds characterizes a unique asthetic fused with compelling visual components. The incorporation of many musical influences within each song lends itself to innovation within the electronic pop genre. The lyrics employ poetic imagery- embodying a soulful, and universal emotional truth. The conscious decision to disregard lyrical and visual boundaries allows for true freedom of expression- a movement of rebellion towards conventions of popular music, and its consumption.

Where are you based?
Toronto

How long have you been making music?
My earliest recollection of cutting up samples and arranging them was when I was around 8 years old- around the same time that garageband became exclusive to the Mac. Playing around in that way evolved into somewhat of an escape or safe place in my adolescence, when I began to write lyrics as more of a personal thereputic practice. Entirely producing my own work and learning to share it beyond my own internal space is a very new venture for me!

What genre would you consider your music to be?
I like to describe my music as being experimental. My aim is to fuse structures and elements found in pop music with more unconventional sounds.

What inspired you to pursue a career in music?
My desire to lead a meaningful life and experience a full spectrum of uninhibited emotion inspires me to persue a career in music. To me, art and music is the purest form of expression.

What are your biggest musical influences?
Some of my biggest musical influences are Bjork, Arca, Sophie, and Trent Reznor.

Are you signed to a label or are you an independent artist?
I am currently not signed!

What have been the biggest challenges in your music career?
I think the biggest challenges that I find myself working through are my own cycles of self doubt.

How many songs or albums have you released to date?
To date, I have released two albums and a four track EP.

Can you tell us a few things about your latest release?
With ’Trib Al’, I had really wanted to try something that was different and fun. My approach with this track was to play a character who was sort of slimy and unrestricted- sometimes its fun to challenge your own perception of yourself. I recorded these vocals in my bedroom when my nose was pretty congested, and despite how I was feeling I just wanted to write something without having some ideal of ‘perfect conditions’ or sounding ‘perfect’.

Any plans for new music or upcoming projects we should know about?
Yes! I have many projects on the backburner as of now. I have been collaborating with other underground artists on music and visual art that will be released within the next few weeks, as well as on a self-produced album with visual components that I plan to release in the following year.
