Emerging from the ashes of several bands ranging from Richmond, VA to Baltimore, MD. Angry Son skillfully blends Alt Rock with an Emo tinge accompanied with an infectious authenticity. Coming off the heels of 2021’s release “For You, Wherever You Are” Angry Son’s new single “Cope” ushers in a new era for the band. “No pressure No expectations” was the motto used during the recording process that liberated Angry Son to create “Cope” in a no holds barred type of environment. Ensuring that no idea was left unexplored.

How long have you been making music?
Devin – I have been making music since I was 15 years old.
Alan – I started my first band when I was 13 years old.
What Genre would you consider your music to be?
Devin – I consider my music to be Alt-Rock, Punk, Americana, and Soul.
Alan – Devin and I’s music tastes are very similar. However, I tend to gravitate to darker moodier music.
What inspired you to pursue a career in music?
Devin – My biggest inspiration to pursue a career in music was watching my favorite performers perform their songs live.
Alan – Seeing Third Eye Blind as a child inspired me to pursue music, and playing shows in high school solidified that feeling.
What are your biggest musical influences?
Devin – I’ve always considered Bruce Springsteen as the artist who has influenced me the most. I’ve also have drawn inspiration from artists such as The Gaslight Anthem, The Menzingers, and Bob Dylan.
Alan – My musical influences are ever changing. The music that I am drawn to for inspiration (honest, raw, grit, etc.) takes many different shapes and sounds. But two artists that have continuously inspired me over the years is Brand New and Jay-Z.
Are you signed to a label or are you an independent artist?
We are currently independent artists.
What have been the biggest challenges in your music career?
Devin – The biggest challenge in my musical career is getting over the fear of failure. I handle it better now that I’m older, but occasionally I am still prone to getting lost in the sauce.
Alan – The biggest challenge for me has been having the confidence to put myself out there. It’s easy to be your own worst critic, and talk yourself out of situations before they happen.
How many songs or albums have you released to date?
Devin – I have put out a lot of music over the years. Two EP’s, one with The Truly Haunted and one with Angry Son. I am also working on solo material as well.
Alan – With Angry Son, we released our first record last year and Cope is our first single since that release. I have also released music with multiple projects within the last ten years.
Can you tell us a few things about your release?
Devin – Our latest release was recorded in November 2021 with Mike Bridgett (Have Mercy, Turnover, Sharptooth) at Monster House Studios. This songs ushers in a new sound for us that is continuously evolving. The message behind the song is simple, don’t give into what our anxieties tell us…it’s gonna be alright whether you believe it in that moment or not.
Alan – To add on to Devin’s response, while in the studio we wanted to be in the moment and not be afraid to try different things and think out of the box. That idea is how we created majority of the second half of the song. I think it went pretty well lol.
Any plans for new music or upcoming projects we should know about?
Devin – Alan and I have a lot of hopes and aspirations for not only Angry Son, but our solo projects as well. More songs are coming very soon from all three entities.
Alan – Devin is correct, there is a lot more music in the works. We’re planning to get back into the studio with Angry Son by the end of the year. But Devin’s project (Devin James & The Haunted) and my project (Rough Hands) will be releasing music throughout the rest of this year.
