Where are you based?
Guelph, Ontario
How long have you been making music?
About 10 years! I started my first band at 20 and we released our first album in 2017. In 2019, I started releasing music under my own name so that I could have more control over the writing and producing while steering in whatever direction I wanted.
What genre would you consider your music to be?
I would consider my music somewhere in between folk and alternative with an underlying tone of singer-songwriter, but I do like to collaborate with other artists and producers to write music in various genres.
What inspired you to pursue a career in music?
My father, Kent Sheridan, is an active actor and musician who inspired me to take interest in music, which happened initially through playing guitar. From there, I began singing along to songs I enjoyed while trying to get better at playing my favourite riffs. Over 10 years later, I fell in love with writing honest music that I am proud of and excited to share.
What are your biggest musical influences?
Some of my biggest influences right now are bands like The Brook & The Bluff, Blake Rose, HARBOUR, and Vacation Manor, but long time favourites have been Jack Johnson, Lord Huron, John Butler Trio, Dermot Kennedy.
Are you signed to a label or are you an independent artist?
I am independent, in a way! I work with a great team on marketing my new music, and I have a great team of audio engineers and producers that help me polish my ideas and songs. I am, however, looking to work with booking agents, management, publishers and labels to help in reaching a larger audience, have more tour dates, and establish connections to media placements and radio/satellite airplay.
What have been the biggest challenges in your music career?
The biggest challenge I find is really getting traction on my music, so I try to focus on writing better and better songs. I think it’s tough to balance promoting yourself, writing, and finding new avenues to connect with listeners and other artists/producers while staying inspired to write and produce new music. It’s not an easy pursuit, but I couldn’t see my life without writing music.
How many songs or albums have you released to date?
I have released one album and 7 singles, and I will be releasing my second album this fall.
Can you tell us a few things about your latest release?
Northern Lights is a unique release for me because it is the first collaboration I have put out that is more directed to the genres of EDM and Pop while still holding a foundation in my acoustic-folk/singer-songwriter style of writing. I worked with Yeghia Kibalian, a Toronto based producer, on blending his production style with my voice to create a relaxed, but energetic song that could be enjoyed during a weekend hangouts with friends, or during a drive with a sunset. The song’s message is directed to someone who wants to reach out to their old relationship because they realize how perfect and beautiful it was, but they feel stuck in admiring something intangible.
Any plans for new music or upcoming projects we should know about?
I have a new album coming out in the fall, but between my latest release and then, you can expect an acoustic/folk style rendition of my latest single, Northern Lights, along with more collaboration releases with other artists and producers. I also started a podcast called, Before the Tour, where I speak to people from all corners of the music industry with new episodes released bi-weekly on Mondays. Episode 5 comes out on August 8th!
