How long have you been making music?
What genre would you consider your music to be?
It’s always hard to say, considering I love and respect all different types of music. I’m very eclectic when it comes to that aspect as I will pretty much listen to anything and sing to everything. You can give me R&B/Soul, Pop/Rock, Jazz, Gospel, or even Hip-Hop music. No matter the genre, if it sounds good and feeling the vibes, I’ve no problem contributing it to my own work and riding off that inspiration.
What inspired you to pursue a career in music?
Music and singing has been a lifelong passion for as long as I can remember. Honestly, I don’t think there has never been a time where I could see myself doing anything else but music. I feel like it is something I’ve been destined to do.
What are your biggest musical influences?
Definitely the “powerhouse-diva” vocalists, as I tend to call them: Whitney Houston, Aretha Franklin, Mariah Carey, Patti LaBelle, Diana Ross, Debelah Morgan, Beyonce’. However that is not fully limited, I’m inspired by so many more; but I do consider them as a few of my top go-to favorites.
Are you signed to a label or are you an independent artist?
I am a founder and owner of self-independent label, Oshan Ark Music, LLC.
What have been the biggest challenges in your music career?
Where do I start? Lol. I’ve faced and overcome so many challenges throughout my career journey that it’s almost nearly impossible to name just one or even just a few. I’ll find where where each new challenge will often feel worse than the last, but hey it is what it is. But you know, honestly it is probably hard for me to name just one because I try not to focus or dwell on the problem. Just like with anything in life, you take the L, learn from it, move forward and keep going. (In the words of the beautiful late Aaliyah, “If at first you don’t succeed, dust yourself off and try again!”)
How many songs or albums have you released to date?
Personally, not enough! Lol. But don’t worry, we are in the working on building the momentum of that discography catalog.
Can you tell us a few things about your latest release?
As of now, the most ‘recent’ release is a track titled “A Love Like This X No Guidance” (Available to stream on SoundCloud and YouTube) — which is basically a remixed mashup of my 2018 debut single ‘A Love Like This’ sung along to the instrumental sample of Chris Brown and Drake’s record “No Guidance”. It was one of those days where I was testing out some new equipment in the studio; meanwhile the “No Guidance” was stuck in my head. All of a sudden I started singing the lyrics to my song to the Chris Brown and Drake beat, and to my surprise I realized how the melody of the lyrics seamlessly matched to the instrumental. So I figured let’s be creative and have some fun with it.
