“Ophelia’s Flowers” is a vocally strong, intelligently-written tune streaming everywhere on Wednesday, November 18.
Taylor explains, “I watched Hamlet for the first time in sixth grade and fell in love with Ophelia because she was played by Helena Bonham Carter, who I thought kind of looked like me. As I grew older, my appreciation for Ophelia grew too. They called her weak, but I disagreed. She stood in front of the royal court barefoot, giving them little bouquets that symbolized insults. I thought, what if I could create a pop song, seemingly innocent as a flower, and use it to critique society? That is how ‘Ophelia’s Flowers’ was born.”
