Passionate, political and firmly attached to the dancefloor, Australian band NASTY PARTY is a pants to the wall punk n’ new wave sonic party built around the twin song writing, vocal and guitar attack of Nasty Simon and Rhys Nasty, formed in 2019.
A totally eclectic DIY mutant melting pot of everything the duo love about their favourite bands, NASTY PARTY is laced with lyrics that bring to light themes relevant to today’s world from progressive politics to the changing fabric of society.
Based in Sydney & London, NASTY PARTY bash out self produced tunes that slide in somewhere between the melodic choruses of The Buzzcocks and The Cure, the bratty classic punk of Sex Pistols, The Jam, The Voidoids and The Ramones, the Antipodean guitar assault of The Angels and AC/DC and the spiky angular subversiveness of Wire and Gang Of Four.

Where are you based?
London & Sydney
How long have you been making music?
We have both been playing around in various bands since we left school… but we first joined forces & started writing & recording songs for a Nasty Party Album in early 2019. We were all set to release an Album right before Covid happened. Then Nasty Simon ended up moving to London right as the Airports closed etc. This made things extremely difficult as you can imagine. We have instead since been releasing our songs as singles over the last year & half.
What genre would you consider your music to be?
Fans of Retro Punk, Post-Punk & Aussie Pub Rock, would definitely dig NASTY PARTY.
What inspired you to pursue a career in music?
All we have ever wanted to do was express ourselves really. Playing rock music is such an intense, immediate & visceral experience. We’ve found creating songs in Nasty Party to be one of the most satisfying & exhilarating things we have done. We have also met many cool & interesting people while playing music over the years. Most of our friends all play music or create Art in some way.
What are your biggest musical influences?
We are really dig bands like, The Wipers, Buzzcocks, The Cure, Devo, Gang of Four, Wire, REM, The Saints, The Fall, The Meanies, The Hard On’s, The Cops, The Saints, Midnight Oil, Celibate Rifles, Rose Tattoo, Laughing Clowns, The Triffids, Amyl & The Sniffers, Royal Headache, INXS
Are you signed to a label or are you an independent artist?
We were offered a Contract to Sign to a Label after our first single came out… However, we turned it down. We didn’t really like the idea of operating via someone else’s schedule. Retaining control of our Art is very important to us.
What have been the biggest challenges in your music career?
Mostly just time do get everything done as we are Completely DIY. As one of us is currently living overseas, we have recently been working more virtually. We email rough mixes & video clip edits back a fourth between time zones… it can make thinks take longer but you just have to keep grinding no matter what obstacles get in the way.
How many songs or albums have you released to date?
Over the last 18 months we have put out 9 songs over 3 Singles.
Can you tell us a few things about your latest release?
The song was inspired by our experience of NSW Police Sniffer Dogs on Public Transport in Sydney. We wrote, recorded & mixed the Loaded Dice single in our tiny bedroom studio, “Loaded Dice” was mastered in London by Tim Debney at Fluid Mastering (Buzzcocks/Libertines)
