I’m cutblack, a 16 year old artist & producer from Ontario Canada. I also do graphic and video design as-well as clothing. I started writing music when I was 8 but dropped my first real song in the summer of 2018.

What genre would you consider your music to be?
Varies from Hip-Hop/Rap, Alternative Rock, Melodic Rap. So I guess you could say Hip-Hop/Rap and lots of sub genres of it
What inspired you to pursue a career in music?
I had already gone through a lot of traumatizing experiences and hardships as a kid. I saw people like Eminem, NWA, 50 Cent & Snoop Dogg using music as a way to cope. I tried it out and it ended up being a really positive way to deal with life. I also wanted to help others with my music. And last of all, I wanted to make an impact with music especially locally, to show other people anything is possible.
What are your biggest musical influences?
It’s a very long list but it varies from Genres. If I had to pick one from each genre, I would say: Lil Peep, Sum 41, Nirvana, ABG Neal, Sik World, Drake & Juice WRLD. Like I said though, the list goes on and on.
Are you signed to a label or are you an independent artist?
I am an independent artist. I have my own name brand collective though, with artists worldwide, called “Cutblack Mafia”
What have been the biggest challenges in your music career?
When I was starting out, A lot of the negativity and hate I got was discouraging but I learned to use it as motivation. I’d say also, feeling like “I’m not going anywhere, I don’t gain anything each day what’s the point”, and starting your fanbase from nothing like I did, your always gonna get feel stuck and unmotivated at some points, but you keep to keep pushing and trying your best if you want to see results in the end. Hard Work, Focus, and Patience are probably the 3 main things you need to always have if you wanna be successful as an artist in my opinion.
How many songs or albums have you released to date?
In terms of official songs on all platforms, I have 1 album, and 5 singles. For unofficial songs (Soundcloud & Youtube) I have 1 EP, and 17 singles. In terms of every song i’ve ever made and released… we’re looking at over 50, haha! (Not including features or collaborations!)
Can you tell us a few things about your latest release?
My latest release (releases) were two singles. One called “What You Deserve” and one called “Don’t Fall In Love” which is featuring an artist in my collective named “Yung Sayso”. The song “What You Deserve” is super unique and can’t really be compared to another artists style in my opinion. It’s one of my favourites I have ever made. The song “Don’t Fall In Love” has a Hard Pop Punk Rock guitar melody which gives it a Lil Tracy/Lil Raven/Lil Peep/GBC type of vibe. It’s like, for all my Lil Peep fans out there, a “Cobain” type song. It’s still emotional and alternative but it’s more of like a “Sad Flex” type of song, that’s the best way I could put it.
Any plans for new music or upcoming projects we should know about?
I have at least 4 full albums worth of written music, but to be fully honest for the next few months i’m planning on dropping mainly singles. I just dropped a mixtape titled “2004” a couple months ago, so I want to release a bunch of singles to keep my fanbase active while I work on preparations for another future mixtape.
